Max Kozloff

author

Maxwell Kozloff (1933–2025) was a prominent American art historian, critic, and photographer. He served as an art editor for The Nation and executive editor of Artforum. Kozloff is widely recognized for his scholarship on modern art, particularly Abstract Expressionism and the history of photography. He held teaching positions at numerous prestigious institutions, including Yale University and the School of Visual Arts. His publications include significant works on Jasper Johns, Cubism/Futurism, and photographic portraiture.
