Max Natkiel

photographer

Max Natkiel is a Dutch photographer renowned for his extensive documentation of Amsterdam's alternative youth culture during the late 1970s and 1980s. A frequent visitor to the Paradiso nightclub—a major international meeting center for subcultures—Natkiel began capturing images of its diverse clientele, including punks, goths, skinheads, mods, and rockers, starting around 1980. His work is characterized by black-and-white portraits that capture the raw essence of these movements during a period of significant cultural transition in Europe. He is particularly noted for his 'Paradiso Stills' series and his long-term project documenting the club's unique atmosphere.[1,4,5]
