Michel Ciment (1938–2023) was a distinguished French film critic, author, and academic. He served as the editor-in-chief of the influential cinema magazine Positif from 1966 until his death. A prominent figure in French cinephilia, he was known for his deep knowledge of American cinema and authored numerous reference works on directors such as Stanley Kubrick and John Boorman. Ciment also held academic positions at the University of Paris-VII and served as a juror for various international film festivals.[1]
