Mirta Gómez
photographer
Mirta Gómez is a Cuban-born photographer who has worked in close collaboration with her husband, Eduardo del Valle, for over thirty years. Their joint practice focuses on the documentation of rural areas and small towns in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico. They are recognized for their ability to capture subjects in states of flux, specifically recording the metamorphosis of vernacular architecture and the impact of man-made modifications on native culture. Gómez's work has received significant international attention, including two Guggenheim Fellowships (1997) and solo exhibitions at major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.[2,3,4]
