Murray Smith

author · photographer

Murray Smith is a photographer and author born in 1938. He acquired his first serious camera, a Leica M5, in 1971, which sparked his interest in people as a primary photographic subject. Inspired by Edward Steichen's 'Family of Man', Smith focuses on capturing random, non-posed images that seek metaphysical significance and visual poetry. He favors the book format to create contemplative opportunities for viewers to 'think in pictures,' using sequential logic and recapitulations to organize his work. His first self-published book, Nexus, was released in 1980, followed by Fuzzy Wuzzy in 1982.[1]
