Osamu Kanemura
photographer
Osamu Kanemura is a Japanese photographer and artist based in Tokyo. Born in the suburb of Koenji in 1964, he began his career in black and white film photography, focusing on urban landscapes since 1992. He studied at the Image Forum Film Institute and later graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 1993. His work is characterized by a dense, graphically complex portrayal of the modern metropolis, often capturing the intricate networks of wires, infrastructure, and architectural collisions that define Japanese cities like Tokyo. Kanemura has received numerous accolades, including the New Photographer Prize from the Photographic Society of Japan (1997) and the Ken Domon Prize (2000). His photobooks are noted for their silvery, 'spidery' aesthetic and have been featured in international exhibitions.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]
