Born in Madrid, Spain, in 1935 to parents fleeing Nazi Germany, he moved to Mexico as a child and became a prominent figure in its artistic scene. Meyer is known for his socially conscious documentary work, which includes capturing pivotal historical moments such as the student movements of 1968 in Mexico City. He was an early adopter of digital photography and served as the founder and president of the Consejo Mexicano de Fotografía. His artistic practice often involves constructing narrative through a series of images that explore themes of Mexican identity, social rituals, and the industrial landscape of Mexico.
