Pekka Turunen

Pekka Turunen is a Finnish photographer born in Joensuu, Finland, in 1958. He studied photography at the Helsinki School of Art (Taik University of Art and Design), obtaining an MA in 1987. Turunen began his notable photography series, 'Against the Wall' (Seinää vasten), in 1984, documenting the lives of people on Finland's eastern borders and the rural landscape of North Karelia. He has lived and worked in Kemiönsaari, southwest Finland, and has held positions as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts. His work is characterized by documentary and artistic explorations of rural Finnish life, the transition from local culture to international markets, and the visual storytelling of marginalized communities.[1,2,3]
