author
Peter Turner (1947–2005) was a distinguished British photographer, curator, and writer. He is best known as the longest-serving editor of 'Creative Camera,' where he shaped the publication's direction for many years, advocating for contemporary documentary and formalist photography. Turner was a significant figure in the British photographic community, curating major exhibitions for institutions such as the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Barbican Art Gallery, and the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford. He was also a notable publisher, establishing Travelling Light in 1980, which published works including 'Photo Texts' (1988). In the 1990s, he moved to New Zealand, where he continued his work in photography and academia. He died in Wellington in 2005, leaving a legacy that includes the establishment of the Peter Turner Memorial Lecture and Scholarship at Massey University.[1]
