Philip Jones Griffiths

Philip Jones Griffiths (1936–2008) was a renowned Welsh photojournalist and photographer known for his unflinching documentation of war and its human consequences. Born in Rhuddlan, Wales, he grew up speaking Welsh and developed an early interest in photography at age 14. He began working as a full-time freelancer for the London-based Observer in 1961, covering conflicts such as the Algerian War and later moving to Central Africa. In 1971, he became a member of Magnum Photos. Griffiths is perhaps most famous for his seminal work on the Vietnam War, particularly his book 'Vietnam Inc.', which provided a profound look at the conflict's devastation.
