Popel Coumou is a Dutch artist and photographer based in Amsterdam. She is known for her layered, two-dimensional collages that blend photographs, paper, clay, and other materials. Coumou builds her own reality by lighting these collages from the back to give them a third dimension, creating works that exist on the border between photography and painting, and reality and fiction. She graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2004 and her works have been acquired by major institutions such as the Kunstmuseum Den Haag and the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.[1,2,3,4]
