Rainer Hildebrandt

Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt (1914–2004) was a German human rights activist, publisher, and resistance fighter against National Socialism. He is best known as the founder of the Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, which he established in 1962 to document the escape attempts from East Germany to the West and the global fight for human rights. Hildebrandt was a member of the Kampfgruppe gegen Unmenschlichkeit (Combat Group against Inhumanity) and served as the director of the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie until his death. His work focused on documenting the history of the Berlin Wall and advocating for non-violent human rights movements.[1,2,3]
