Reinier Gerritsen is an Amsterdam-based photographer known for his work in social documentary and fine art. His practice focuses on the 'condition humaine', capturing people within their social and cultural contexts. He gained significant recognition in 1992 with a prestigious Rijksmuseum-NRC assignment documenting corporate culture in the Netherlands. Gerritsen's work often features public spheres, such as the New York subway or Amsterdam panoramas. Notable projects include his documentation of passengers reading physical books in subways (The Last Book) and his long-term project 'Standpunt Nachtwacht' at the Rijksmuseum (2019–2024). His photography is characterized by a patient, almost nature-documentary approach to human behavior.[1,2,3,4,5]
