René Groebli
photographer
René Groebli (1927–2026) was a Swiss photographer and photojournalist known for his expressionistic approach to industrial and advertising photography. After an apprenticeship in photography and studies at the Zurich School of Applied Arts, he began his career as a documentary cameraman before establishing himself as a prominent figure in Swiss photography. He is particularly noted for his early work 'Magie der Schiene' (Rail Magic), which captured the energy and power of steam locomotives through dynamic compositions and high-contrast black-and-white imagery. Groebli was an expert in dye transfer and color printing, managing a successful commercial studio in Zurich where he worked with numerous graphic artists and photographers. His work often explored themes of movement, industrial aesthetics, and subjective experience, earning him recognition for his unique visual language.[1,2,3]
