Richard Julian Long

author · photographer

Sir Richard Julian Long is a prominent English sculptor and land artist known for his work involving walking in landscapes and creating sculptures from natural materials such as earth, rock, mud, and stone. He studied at Saint Martin's School of Art before beginning his artistic career in the late 1960s. His practice often blurs the boundaries between sculpture, performance art, and conceptual art, frequently documented through photography and text. Long is notably the only artist to have been shortlisted four times for the Turner Prize, eventually winning it in 1989 for 'White Water Line'. He lives and works in Bristol.[1]
