Zilvold is well-known for his work with the NRC Handelsblad and has received significant recognition for his news photography. He won the prestigious Zilveren Camera award in 1989 for his coverage of the Romanian revolution and again in 2004 for his documentation of a terrorism suspect's arrest in The Hague.
