Roger Dyckmans

photographer

Roger Dyckmans (1942–2015) was a renowned Belgian photographer, widely regarded as the 'father of Belgian fashion photography.' Born in Antwerp, he studied at the Sint Lukas Hogeschool in Brussels before beginning his professional career in 1966. He initially worked as a photojournalist for newspapers like De Nieuwe Gazet, but quickly transitioned into high-fashion and artistic photography. Dyckmans was known for his mastery of black-and-white aesthetics, focusing on composition, light, and texture. Beyond fashion, he produced portraits of prominent Belgian figures in politics, sports, and culture, and was a pioneer in digital photography and Photoshop techniques. His work often bridged the gap between commercial fashion and fine art, characterized by an evocative visual language that complemented literary works, such as his collaboration with poet Clem Schouwenaars.[1,2,3]
