Rosalind Fox Solomon

Rosalind Fox Solomon (1930–2025) was an American photographer based in New York City. She began her photographic practice in the late 1960s after traveling to Asia and studying with Lisette Model in the early 1970s. Her work is characterized by a deep engagement with human experience, often focusing on portraits that explore themes of suffering, resilience, ritual, and identity. Solomon's photography frequently captures people in both private and public moments, navigating complex social and racial dynamics. She was known for her unflinching gaze and empathetic approach to subjects, ranging from everyday individuals to those caught in significant historical events. Her archive, which includes over 1,000 fine prints and extensive documentation, was acquired by the University of Arizona's Center for Creative Photography in 2007.[1,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15]
