Rudy Burckhardt

Rudy Burckhardt (1914–1999) was a Swiss-born photographer, filmmaker, and painter who became a significant figure in the New York art scene. Born into a notable Swiss family in Basel, he emigrated to the United States in 1934. He is best known for his street photography and intimate portraits of artists, including Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. His work often captured the atmosphere of the New York School and various international locations such as Haiti and Italy. Burckhardt was a close friend of many prominent figures in the art world and spent much of his life documenting their lives and creative processes.[1,2,3,4,5,8]
