Ruth Berlau

Ruth Berlau (1906–1974) was a Danish actress, director, photographer, and writer who became a significant collaborator of Bertolt Brecht. She met Brecht in Denmark in 1933 and accompanied him through his years of exile across Europe and the United States. During their time together, she worked on various theatrical projects and helped curate and assemble archives of Brecht's work. Berlau was also an active communist and feminist who founded a workers' theater in her homeland. She is noted for her photographic documentation of Brecht's life and for her role as the head of the literary and photographic archive of the Berliner Ensemble in East Berlin.[1,2,3,4,5,6]
