Ryūichi Kaneko

Ryūichi Kaneko was a prominent Japanese photography historian, critic, photobook collector, and curator. He was a significant figure in documenting the history of Japanese photography, particularly through his work as a curator at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, where he served from its founding in 1990. Kaneko was also known for his research and work as a monk at the Shōgyōin temple in Tokyo. He amassed a vast personal collection of approximately 20,000 photobooks and magazines, which served as a primary resource for his scholarly contributions to the field of Japanese visual culture.[1,2,3]
