Sally Mann is a prominent American photographer known for her large-format black and white photographs of people and places in her immediate surroundings. Born in Lexington, Virginia, she began photographing at age sixteen and eventually gained international acclaim for her intimate and often controversial series 'Immediate Family' (1992), which documented her three children in their rural Virginia home. Her work explores themes of family, loss, childhood autonomy, and the American landscape.
