Sebastião Salgado
author · photographer
Sebastião Salgado is a renowned Brazilian documentary photographer and photojournalist. Originally trained as an economist, he began his professional photography career in Paris in 1973, working with agencies such as Sygma, Gamma, and Magnum Photos. He is known for his 'militant photography,' which focuses on the human condition, documenting global issues including famine, forced migration, and manual labor. His work often features large-scale, evocative black-and-white imagery that captures the dignity of marginalized populations. In 1994, he co-founded Amazonas Images with his wife, Lélia Wanick Salgado, to manage his photographic projects and exhibitions worldwide.[1,2,3,4]
