Serge Klarsfeld is a Romanian-born French activist, historian, and lawyer, widely recognized as a 'Nazi hunter.' Born in Bucharest in 1935 to a family of Bessarabian Jews who fled to France before the Second World War, Klarsfeld witnessed his father's deportation and death in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Since the 1960s, he has dedicated his life to documenting the Holocaust, locating and prosecuting Nazi war criminals, and advocating for the rights of Jewish deportees. He co-founded the 'Sons and Daughters of Jewish Deportees from France' (FFDJF) and has been instrumental in bringing high-profile cases against figures like Klaus Barbie and Maurice Papon. Klarsfeld is also an author whose works provide a memorial and record of the Jewish victims of Nazi persecution in France.
