Thaddeus John Szarkowski

Thaddeus John Szarkowski (1925–2007) was a seminal American photographer, curator, historian, and critic. He is most renowned for his tenure as the Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York from 1962 to 1991. During this period, he fundamentally shaped the public's understanding of photography as a fine art form, championing visionary photographers and curating over 160 exhibitions. Szarkowski was also an accomplished photographer himself, producing works that explored visual language and everyday life.
