Toon Michiels
author · photographer
Toon Michiels (1950–2015) was a Dutch photographer and graphic designer known for his unique 'Image Collector' approach to visual arts. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art & Design in 's-Hertogenbosch, graduating in 1973. Throughout his career, Michiels blended the disciplines of photography and design, creating a distinct visual language that captured everyday imagery with meticulous artistic intent. His notable works, such as 'Zeldzame Mensen,' were recognized for their compelling documentary style and were even acquired by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. 'Reisfoto's' (1987) is a photography exhibition catalogue featuring his work, which was presented in an exhibition at the Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst in Den Bosch and Utrecht. His practice was characterized by a deep curiosity for the ordinary and a mastery of typographic and photographic composition.[1,2]
