Volker Heinze

author · photographer

Volker Heinze is a German photographer and artist born in Duisburg in 1959. He began his career as a freelance magazine photographer in 1984 and holds a diploma in Communication Design from the University GHS Essen (1986). Although he was formally trained as a musician, studying double bass at the Hochschule für Musik in Köln from 1985 to 1989, his artistic practice focuses on photography. Heinze is known for exploring visual ideas through book form as a primary medium before presenting work in galleries or museums. His work often involves constructed images and digital type-c prints, notably seen in series like 'Urban Defects' (since 2003), which features large-format images of existing cities.[1,2,3]
