Walter Benjamin
author
Walter Benjamin (1892–1940) was a German philosopher, cultural critic, and essayist. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century, known for his profound insights into modernity, aesthetics, and history. A key figure associated with the Frankfurt School, Benjamin's work synthesizes elements of German idealism, Jewish mysticism, Western Marxism, and post-Kantianism. His seminal essays, including 'The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction' and 'Theses on the Philosophy of History,' explore the impact of technology on art and the dialectics of history. He was a prolific writer who also translated works by Baudelaire and Proust. Benjamin died by suicide in Portbou, Spain, while attempting to flee Nazi Germany.[1,2]
