Walter Firner

Walter Firner (born Walter Feinsinger; 1905–2002) was an Austrian actor, writer, director, theater manager, translator, and publisher. He began his career in the German Reich as an actor and dramaturg before returning to Vienna in 1933 following the Nazi seizure of power. After fleeing to the USA in 1938 during the Anschluss, he worked in Hollywood in minor film roles. Upon returning to Austria in 1946, he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and was active as a theater director across Europe. He was also a significant publisher, heading the Gloriette-Verlag and Athene-Edition.[1]
