Werner Mantz

author · photographer

Werner Mantz (1901–1983) was a prominent German-Dutch photographer known for his architectural photography in the styles of New Objectivity and New Building. Born in Cologne, he began his career documenting local events and later studied photography in Munich. He established studios in both Cologne and Maastricht, where he became highly sought after by architects such as Wilhelm Riphahn and Frits Peutz. His work is characterized by a sophisticated use of light to emphasize order and structure within architecture. After moving to Eijsden in the late 1960s, his work was rediscovered in the 1970s, leading to several major retrospectives at institutions like the Museum Ludwig and Bonnefantenmuseum.[1,2,3]
