author · photographer

Wright Marion Morris (1910–1998) was an American novelist, photographer, and essayist known for his unique 'phototext' works. He spent much of his career documenting the people and artifacts of the Great Plains in both words and pictures. A graduate of Pomona College, he taught at San Francisco State College from 1963 to 1975. Morris won two National Book Awards (1956 for 'The Field of Vision' and 1981 for 'Plains Song') and received numerous other honors, including Guggenheim Fellowships and the Whiting Award. His photography is characterized by a stark, intimate style that often juxtaposes fictional text with visual documentation.[1,2]
