Yoshihiko Ueda

Yoshihiko Ueda is a prominent Japanese photographer and professor of Graphic Design at Tama Art University (retired in March 2025). Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1957, he is known for his evocative photography that explores the relationship between humans and nature. His work often utilizes large-format cameras to capture profound silence and 'forces' within landscapes. Notable series include 'Quinault', a meditation on a sacred Native American rainforest; 'Amagatsu', a study of dancer Ushio Amagatsu; and 'Materia'. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Photographic Society of Japan Lifetime Achievement Award and several ADC Awards in both Tokyo and New York. In 2011, he established Gallery 916 to showcase his work.[1,2]
