Yves Bonnefoy was a prominent French poet, art historian, critic, and translator. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential modern French poets of the late 20th century. A professor at the Collège de France from 1981 to 1993, he held the chair of comparative studies of the poetic function. His work encompasses a vast range of subjects, including poetry, art history (notably on artists like Miró), and translations of William Shakespeare.
