Zadie Smith is a prominent British novelist, essayist, and short-story writer. Born in London to a Jamaican mother and an English father, she grew up in the working-class area of Willesden. She attended the University of Cambridge, where she studied English literature. Her debut novel, White Teeth (2000), was an immediate bestseller and received widespread critical acclaim. Smith is known for her exploration of themes such as race, religion, cultural identity, and class in contemporary society. She has held various academic positions, including a tenured professorship at New York University's Creative Writing faculty since 2010.
