Rafi et les 9 singes
Color illustrations, early rare children book by the famous creator of 'Curious George', a German Jew exiled in America, written in French during his stay in Paris, original edition
Rafi et les 9 singes is a rare first edition children's book published in 1939 by Librairie Gallimard (NRF) in Paris. Created by the husband and wife team of Hans Augusto Rey and Margret Waldstein Rey, this work marks the earliest appearance of the mischievous monkey character who would later become known as 'Curious George'. The story follows a lonely giraffe named Rafi who forms an unlikely friendship with nine playful monkeys. This French edition was published just before the Reys fled Nazi-occupied France in 1940. It is highly collectible and serves as the original source material for the English publication, 'Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys', which appeared three years later in 1942.
