Hans Augusto Rey

Hans Augusto Rey (born Hans Augusto Reyersbach) was a German-born American author and illustrator best known for creating the Curious George series of children's books. Born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1898, he grew up near a zoo, which influenced his lifelong interest in animals. He immigrated to the United States in 1940 and became a citizen in 1946. Working primarily with his wife, Margret Rey, he produced numerous children's stories characterized by playful humor and economical illustrations. His debut work, 'Rafi et les 9 singes' (published in France as 'Rafi et les 9 singes' and later in the UK as 'Raffy and the Nine Monkeys'), was released in 1939 with Gallimard.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10]
