Theater of Love
€900.00
A collection of recently rediscovered pictures taken by Araki in the mid 1960s, several years before his Sentimental Journey debut in 1970. Matches the 5×7 size of the actual rough little prints while the content allows one to see the the very foundations of Araki’s future major themes coming to light. Limited edition of 1000 copies.
Theater of Love brings together a collection of approximately 100-150 unpublished photographs taken by Nobuyoshi Araki around 1965. These images were captured during his early career while he was working as a commercial photographer for the advertising giant Dentsu. The book encapsulates a period of time held by memory and re-lived through photographic images, featuring patchy prints made using thermal development on purpose. Presented in a postcard-sized format, the publication coincides with Araki's inaugural exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography/Film Roppongi.
