Louis Heldring: Amateur Photographer in the Middle East 1898

€22.00
Rijksmuseum studies in photography Vol.3 Reconstructing the way in which an amateur photographer experienced and expressed his trip.
In December 5th 1901, Louis Heldring presented each of his three children with a special edition of his recently published book "Travel impressions of the East". These books had blank pages where he had pasted the photographs that he took on his travels in the Middle East in 1898, with handwritten captions. Originally a modest travel memoir, the three special gift editions grew into splendid two volume jewels of early amateur photography. The combination of text and photographs enables Rakia Faber to reconstruct the way in which an amateur photographer experienced and expressed his trip. The Manfred & Hanna Heiting Fund enables young researchers to study photography in the archives of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and publish their results in the series Rijksmuseum Studies in Photography.
