During his relatively short life, Luigi Ghirri (1943 – 1992) revolutionized Italian photography, gaining a far-reaching reputation as a pioneer and master contemporary photographer. Beginning his career in the 1970s - in the company of Conceptual artists, who were an important early influence - Ghirri presented his homeland through a sequence of poetic and ambiguous photographs. His cropped images of the landscape are presented with a deadpan, often ironic wit and a continuous anthropological engagement with his surroundings. The compositions and hues of his photographs suggest subtle emotional tones and a meticulously rich way of viewing the world, as well as the role of images within it. (source:wikipedia)
