Bouwlust. The urbanization of a polder

€80.00
Striking series of photographs of the metamorphosis from countryside to an urbanized region. Photographed by Theo Baart. Texts in Dutch and English by Tracy Metz, Warna Oosterbaan, Willem van Toorn and Noël van Dooren. Theo Baart grew up in the Haarlemmermeer area, an empty polder that was reclaimed in the 19th century, and after 1970 became rapidly urbanized because of the ever growing village of Hoofddorp and expanding Schiphol Airport.
Bouwlust: The urbanization of a polder by Theo Baart explores the transformation of rural landscapes into urban environments in the Netherlands. Published by NAi Publishers in 1999, the work examines the architectural and spatial developments characteristic of polder land use. It serves as a documentation of how human settlement patterns have reshaped these specific geographical areas over time.
