REST 3000~ STAY 5000~
Tokyo Rumando
€85.00
Self-portraits by Tokyo Rumando, made alone in more than twenty love hotels across Tokyo, including Shinjuku, Ikebukuro and Yoshiwara.
The photographs are self-portraits made inside more than twenty love hotels in Tokyo, in districts including Shinjuku, Ikebukuro and Yoshiwara. Tokyo Rumando, a self-taught photographer born in 1980 who has worked mainly in self-portraiture since 2005, visits the rooms alone and photographs herself in them. The staged pictures look at the hotels as private spaces behind the orderly public face of Japanese society, and at their cultural and historical background. The title refers to the rate signs displayed outside such hotels, where a short rest and a full overnight stay are priced differently. The book is a single-artist monograph of 88 pages in softcover, published by Zen Foto Gallery in 2012. The series was also shown in an exhibition at the gallery.
