Adriaan Morriën

Adriaan Morriën (1912–2002) was a prominent Dutch poet, writer, literary critic, and translator who significantly contributed to Dutch literature in the 20th century. Born in IJmuiden in a Reformed family, he initially pursued a career in education, working as a French teacher until 1941. He made his literary debut in 1939 with the poetry collection 'Hartslag,' which explored the interpersonal dynamics between men, women, and children. Following the end of World War II, Morriën dedicated himself fully to his literary career. His body of work includes short prose, essays, and translations, often characterized by a deep intellectual engagement with contemporary life. He was also recognized for his role as a 'schrijversmakelaar' (literary agent), contributing to the visibility of other authors. His notable works include 'Kinderen in de grote stad' and the collection 'Mens en engel.'[1,2,3]
