Alex Webb

author · photographer

Alex Webb is an American photographer renowned for his vibrant, complex color street photographs that capture layered compositions of light, community, and culture, often in regions with socio-political tensions. Born in San Francisco in 1952 and raised in New England, he studied history and literature at Harvard University and photography at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts. He became a full member of Magnum Photos in 1979. Webb's work is characterized by a mastery of light and a fascination with 'borderlands' — geographical, cultural, and psychological. His photography has been widely exhibited in museums worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.[1,2,3,4,5]
