Alice Rose George
author
Alice Rose George (1944–2020) was an American writer, poet, curator, and photography editor. She held roles at several prominent magazines, including Time, Fortune, and GEO, where she worked to promote and nurture early-career photographers such as Nan Goldin, Gilles Peress, and Jim Goldberg. George was also a poet with collections like 'Ceiling of the World' (1995) and 'Two Eyes' (2015). In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, she co-curated a significant exhibition and accompanying publication, 'Here is New York: A Democracy of Photographs', which compiled images documenting the situation of New York City during the tragedy. She taught in the MFA program at the University of Hartford and was known for her dedication to visual storytelling and photojournalism.
