Cornelis Jaring
photographer
Cornelis (Cor) Jaring was a Dutch photographer and conceptual artist known for his evocative black-and-white photography. He began his professional career in 1966, capturing the turbulent atmosphere of Amsterdam during the 1960s and 70s, including the Provo movement and various happenings involving artists like Robert Jasper Grootveld. Jaring gained international recognition for documenting significant cultural moments, such as the wedding of Princess Beatrix and Prince Claus (1966) and John Lennon's 'Bed-in for Peace' (1969). His work often focused on the daily lives of ordinary people, eccentrics, and maritime scenes in Amsterdam. He was a member of the Beroepsvereniging van Beeldende Kunstenaars and served as an instructor at the AKI Academie voor Art & Design for 23 years starting in 1974. His archives were transferred to the Stadsarchief Amsterdam in 2013.[1,2]
