Hans Esser

Hans Esser is a German architect and visual artist. Born in Zwickau in 1945, he studied architecture in Munich and Aachen, obtaining his diploma from RWTH Aachen in 1971. He worked as an architect for several years before establishing his own office in Aachen in 1988. Parallel to his architectural career, Esser has been active as a visual artist since the mid-1970s, maintaining studios in Aachen and Verviers, Belgium. His artistic practice explores themes of identity, existence, and abstract forms, often influenced by East Asian culture (specifically Japanese calligraphy) and historical documents. He is known for his 'Bilderbuch' publication which chronicles 45 years of his painting career.[1,2]
