Hendrik Johannes Adrianus Hofland
author
Hendrik Johannes Adrianus (Henk) Hofland was a prominent Dutch journalist, essayist, and commentator. Born in Rotterdam, he became an eyewitness to the city's bombing during World War II, an experience that deeply influenced his later writing about the formative impact of the war on his generation. He began his career as a trainee journalist at 'Algemeen Handelsblad' in 1953 and rose to become editor-in-chief by 1969. Known for his sharp intellect and often provocative style, he was considered one of the most distinctive journalists in the Netherlands during the late 20th century. He wrote extensively on politics, culture, and history, frequently using pseudonyms such as S. Montag and K. van Hippel.[1,2,3]
