Hugo Maurice Julien Claus (1929–2008) was a prominent Belgian author who wrote primarily in Dutch. He was a leading figure in the Belgian literary scene, known for his diverse contributions to drama, novels, and poetry. His work often explored complex psychological themes and contemporary social issues. In 1967, he gained significant notoriety with the play 'Masscheroen', which led to a high-profile legal battle regarding public decency laws due to its depiction of three nude men representing the Holy Trinity.
