Israëlis Bidermanas, known professionally as Izis, was a Lithuanian-Jewish photographer who immigrated to Paris in 1930. He became a prominent figure in French humanistic photography, known for his 'poetic realist' style. His work frequently captured the atmosphere of Paris street life, circuses, and the everyday experiences of the common people. During World War II, he participated in the resistance in the Limousin region. He was a close friend of the poet Jacques Prévert and collaborated with him on several publications, most notably 'Grand bal du printemps' (1951). His photography is characterized by a nostalgic, affectionate, and deeply humanistic gaze.[1,2,3]
