Jan Dibbets is a Dutch conceptual artist and photographer born in 1941 in Weert, Netherlands. He is recognized as a pioneer in the field of conceptual art and a significant figure in the development of photography as an autonomous means of artistic expression. Dibbets is known for his rigorous exploration of perception, space, and geometry, often utilizing the camera to explore the mechanics of photographic representation. His work frequently examines the relationship between the natural landscape and human-made structures, exploring how perspective and framing can manipulate viewer perception. He trained as an art teacher at the Tilburg Academy between 1959 and 1963 and has been based in Amsterdam for much of his career. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Tate, MoMA, and S.M.A.K.[1,2,3,4]
